Has anyone had success using a handheld or two-way radio on a cruise?

two way radio
Philo asked:

My wife and I are taking a cruise and would like to bring some radios to communicate. I’m wondering if a coupel of $40 Motorola two-way radios would work between decks. Any experiences or links?

These work very well. I’ve used it with my wife when we go separate ways. She goes to the gym and I go to the rock climbing wall. You should experience no problem at all.

We use the 2-way radios on board to communicate with our teens.

The only problem we had we many groups use 2-way radios while on board and it can be a hassle finging a channel that does not have alot of traffic on it.

Take along a power strip to charge the units…there is only 1 power outlet in the cabin.

I have been on many cruises and never used them however I have seen many other people using them so I guess they work. Make sure you get more then the range you need since with 2 way radios if it says 1 mile range that means 1 mile with nothing between the two radios.
