I have motorola 2 way radios with a 5 mile range? Would these work in Europe?

2 way radios
tx-eagle asked:

I am not asking if it is legal, just whether they would work the way they do in the US.

Radios will work the same everywhere — obviously the terrain plays a part on the range (if its flat youre going to do better than in a city with skyscrapers, electrical signals all over, etc.)

But in general 5 miles is 5 miles. Even in the US you need a license (GMRS) to operate at that power. Be sure to comply with Europes guidelines.

LOL
yes they will, they don’t work on a GSM signal or anything, it’s basically a sender and a receiver kinda thing won’t work in outer space though

They will, but depends on which country are you going!

yes they will work there, but you are not supposed to have them. In Europe, they have a Family Radio Service (the band used by your radios) but it is in a different frequency range. So if you used your radios over there, you would be transmitting probably on one of their public safety bands. Not cool.

Instead I would wait and buy a set when you get to whatever country you are going. In Europe, the band is called “PMR446″
