Swimming lessons
I decided that this past summer, I was going to enroll my daughter in swimming lessons. She was three years old at the time and perfectly capable of learning what needs to be learned. With that decision having been made, I began my quest of finding swimming lessons that would suit her age. I quickly discovered that all of our local community centers and pools cater more to stay at home mothers. Unfortunately, I work full-time during the week. My daytime working hours do not allow for her to take swimming lessons around lunchtime several days a week. I was actually pretty surprised that more classes were not on Saturdays or in the evenings. I wasn’t sure if I should be offended by that discovery or not.
Of course, I did not want to let my children down, so I looked further. I continued my research with private swimming lessons. All sounded so well, until I heard some of their prices. That was so not convenient for me, and my wallet, that I could not choose this alternative. Being so steep, they were off my list, before considering how much my kids will learn at these private swimming lessons.
Looking for a piece of advice, I turned to my neighbors, that also have young kids, but I was surprised to see how many staying at home mothers live next door to me. I was like a dinosaur or something among them, so I got nothing on this. Finally, I decided to call the local community center and ask them to do something about my situation. Then the sun shined on my street. There were more parents that wanted swimming lessons for their kids without having a very loose program. And the people at the community center thought about a solution: they organized Saturday swimming lessons for those kids. I jumped for joy when I heard that.
My boy was very excited that he would take part to swimming lessons. I prepared him in advance and all the family took part in his excitement. I really hoped that it will work just great for him as he was already waiting for a long time to catch up with all the youngsters in our family, used to splashing water around in the pool, at our family gatherings. I was happy that I would not have to watch all the time over him to not fall into the water, during such occasions.
So I took them shopping and bought them some new bathing suits. They were very happy, and so was I. Then came the first real swimming lessons, and they were so glad to be able to learn how to swim, that I realized that all my efforts were worth it, no doubt about it. They looked at me from time to time, while listening to the couch, but only minutes passed and they forgot all about me, being more interested in learning. I can tell that they become more confident since I took them to the Saturday swimming lessons. Now I am not so afraid that they will have an accident when they bathe in a pool.
