Sadly the problem with most hand held walkie talkies as they are called in America are legally only 4 watts. And 4 watts barely make it a couple miles. In most cases 1 mile with obstructions if the units are good.

However, I find better reach with Hand Held Cb Radios. They too are low watt but reach further than most walkie talkies. That’s up to 4 miles I believe.

Other than that and you want to reach even further you will need to belong to some kind of Network with Satellite and towers etc, etc.

Of course there is always Ham operator Radios. But I don’t know of any hand held models that exist.
